Brazilian central bank denies censoring board members

The Central Bank of Brazil issued an unusual statement on July 19, denying it censors its board members.

The central bank was replying to an article published the same day by reporter Mônica Bergamo in Brazil’s Folha de São Paulo newspaper.

Bergamo said Gabriel Galípolo, a newly appointed board member and monetary policy director, would expose divisions within the central bank if he spoke frankly to journalists. She said CBB president Roberto Campos Neto would try to control Galípolo’s public
