Former Malta deputy governor wins libel case

Alfred Mifsud, former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Malta, won a libel suit against late journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia on February 9. A magistrate ordered Caruana Galizia’s estate to pay Mifsud €1,000 ($1,075).

In a June 2016 blog post, Caruana Galizia accused Mifsud of accepting bribes when he was chair of Mid-Med Bank in the 1990s. In return for payments from a US software company, she said Mifsud chose them for an IT contract.
