Myanmar sentences ex-deputy governor to 20 years

A Myanmar court has sentenced former deputy central bank governor Bo Bo Nge to 20 years in prison. News website the Irrawaddy reported that the trial took place on December 13, citing district court staff. The former deputy governor reportedly defended himself.

Myanmar’s military arrested Bo Bo Nge on February 1, 2021, as it mounted a coup against the elected government. The trial convicted the former deputy governor of corruption, but observers say he was arrested and tried for his opposition
