Media Advisory – OECD Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting 2022: Driving long-term recovery and economic growth by building a trusted, sustainable, and inclusive digital future

02/12/2022 –

14-15 December, Gran Canaria, Spain

From the rise in cross-border data flows to the growing presence of artificial intelligence in everyday applications, digitalisation increasingly fuels the global economy, permeates across sectors and affects all aspects of life. This digital transformation carries great potential for innovation, well-being and prosperity, with data accessibility and openness in particular emerging as a means to empower people and businesses, yet also bringing risks of misuse and harm, and new policy challenges for governments.

Ministers, policy makers, business, technical and civil society representatives from nearly 40 countries will come together at an OECD Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting in Gran Canaria, Spain, on 14-15 December to discuss how governments can find a balance between unleashing the benefits of the digital transformation for all while protecting people, society and economies from the risks it can create. This will include discussions around rights in the digital age, connectivity and other digital divides, the issue of online misinformation, and how to ensure the digital transformation supports the green transition and net zero goals.

OECD member countries will be represented, along with, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Indonesia, Peru, Romania and Ukraine. The OECD countries will present four new Recommendations on digital security, aimed at helping governments to combat cyberattacks and build safer digital societies. The Ministerial Meeting will also see the launch of new reports and findings from OECD work on data governance for growth and well-being, and the adoption of a Declaration on Government Access to Personal Data Held by Private Sector Entities, to serve as a basis for fostering trust in cross-border data flows.

Following is a list of sessions that are open to media and can be either attended in person or followed remotely. For either physical or virtual participation, journalists are required to register in advance. All times are in local time (Western European Time or UTC).
