The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) published the results of its public consultation on the future of cash and central bank digital currency (CBDC) on April 29, finding strong support for cash despite its declining use.
“We are particularly focused on progressing concrete steps to improve resilience and efficiency in the cash system,” said Ian Woolford, head of money and cash at the central bank. At the same time, “no decision” has been made on whether a CBDC is right for New Zealand.
