China is expanding its e-yuan pilot, the People’s Bank of China announced on April 2. 

Eleven cities will begin trials of the central bank digital currency (CBDC), in addition to 10 existing pilot centres, the central bank said. 

The PBoC held a meeting on the digital yuan on March 31, at which governor Yi Gang and vice-governor Fan Yifei were in attendance. Meeting participants said the pilot projects to date – notably the use of the e-yuan at the Winter Olympics and Paralympics – had
