Thailand’s state advisory council has said a government-nominated candidate is not qualified to become the central bank’s chairman.

The Council of State decided that Kittiratt na Ranong was ineligible to take the senior post at the Bank of Thailand (BoT) because he had served as an adviser to former prime minister Srettha Thavisin within the past year. As such, he could not be considered politically neutral, the council said in a statement issued on its website.
