Taliban regime appoints new Afghan governor

The Taliban regime in Afghanistan has changed its central bank governor, it announced on July 6, promoting a man under international sanctions.

Noor Ahmad Agha will now lead Da Afghanistan Bank after being its first deputy governor since the Taliban regained power in late August 2021. Agha is subject to individual sanctions from the US, European Union and United Nations for his alleged involvement in financing terrorist acts.
