Comms staff rarely hold PhD qualifications

Communications employees of central banks are less likely to have a doctorate (PhD), the Communications Benchmarks 2024 shows.

Only a slim proportion (1.8%) of employees hold a PhD degree on average. The figure is lower than but still similar to the 2023 benchmark, which had a different sample of central banks – just 2.6% of communications staff held a PhD in that benchmark.

This year, master’s degree holders remain the highest average qualification level at some 49.5% of comms staff. But
