First woman appointed as Bosnian central bank governor

Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo

Jasmina Selimović took office as the new governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) on January 3, marking the end of a long period of political deadlock over appointments.

Selimović, like her predecessor Senad Softić, is an economics professor at the University of Sarajevo.  

She said she was proud to be the first female governor and was “aware of the great responsibility that this honourable duty brings”. Her main focus would be on maintaining Bosnia’s currency board
