The Bank of England has succeeded in cutting the “semantic complexity” of its communications but a second important measure, “conceptual complexity”, has actually risen, new research finds.
Economists Michael McMahon and Matthew Naylor note central banks have recently sought to reduce the complexity of their communications. But, they say in a working paper, published by the BoE, researchers still have a limited understanding of what linguistic complexity actually is.
