Brazilian central bank outlines CBDC project

The Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) revealed new details of its central bank digital currency (CBDC) project on August 15.

Drex, as the currency is called, is being developed on a distributed ledger technology platform that includes smart contracts, Hyperledger Besu.

This is an ethereum client designed for public and private networks. “Its comprehensive permissioning schemes are designed specifically for use in a consortium environment,” says the Hyperledger foundation on its website.
