China considers veteran banker as next PBoC governor

Veteran banker Zhu Hexin has emerged as a frontrunner to become the governor of the Chinese central bank after parliament’s annual session in March.

Yi Gang, the current chief of the People’s Bank of China, is widely expected to step down in March. Analysts have pointed to the fact that the Communist Party dropped him from the Central Committee, its elite body, during its twice-a-decade congress in October last year. Yi, 64, has been governor since March 2018.
