Australia’s central bank said today (August 8) that it is launching a one-year research project to examine the potential economic benefits of introducing a central bank digital currency (CBDC).
The Reserve Bank of Australia will work on the project with the Digital Finance Cooperative Research Centre (DFCRC), a government-funded industry group.
