Pakistan names new governor – Central Banking

The State Bank of Pakistan

The government of Pakistan appointed Jameel Ahmad to a five-year term as the new governor of the State Bank of Pakistan on August 19.

Ahmad succeeds Reza Baqir, who left office in early May after the government declined to grant him a second term. Shortly before Baqir’s departure, the national assembly removed prime minister Imran Khan’s government, which had appointed Baqir in 2019.

Murtaza Syed has served as acting governor since Baqir left office.
