Azerbaijan appoints new governor after dismissing predecessor

Azerbaijan’s president appointed a new central bank governor today (April 13), one day after the departure of the man who held the job for 27 years.

Official media announced yesterday that Azerbaijan’s parliament, which observers say is closely controlled by president Ilham Aliyev, voted to remove Elman Rustamov as governor. Today it voted to appoint Taleh Kazimov to the role, a day after naming him to the central bank board.
