Colombian lawyer asks court to annul central bank appointment

Central Bank of Colombia, Bogota

A Colombian lawyer is asking a court to annul the appointment of former finance minister Alberto Carrasquilla to the central bank’s board.

The lawsuit before Colombia’s “council of state”, the country’s highest administrative law court, was first filed in in early September. Carrasquilla’s appointment has been contentious from the start, with some opposition politicians accusing president Iván Duque of packing the central bank board with political allies.
