Amazon extends surcharge on Visa transactions to include Australia

Amazon extends surcharge on Visa transactions to include Australia

Amazon informed its Australian customers on 1 September that a 0.5% surcharge will be imposed on Visa transactions in the country starting 1 November. To encourage customers to make the switch, Amazon is rewarding customers a AUD 20 ($14.7) gift card if they add an alternative to Visa to their default payment method. A similar move was made by Amazon in Singapore in August to encourage customers to switch from Visa. This comes as a result of Visa’s continued high cost of payments.
