Iranian president appoints new central bank governor

Iran’s outgoing president has promoted the central bank’s deputy governor to the top role, one month after dismissing his predecessor.

Akbar Komijani will become the Central Bank of Iran’s governor after being approved by the cabinet, the country’s official news agency IRNA announced on June 30.

Komijani has a master’s degree and PhD in economics from the University of Wisconsin, in the US, according to the Central Bank of Iran’s website. He taught at the University of Tehran’s economics
